Lakes Reloaded – Senior Weekend – 3rd/4th October

The first senior rounds of the 2020 post-lockdown season will be held on some of the Lake District’s toughest terrain. A middle distance on Rusland Beeches and long on Graythwaite, both with a seeded startlist, will make for exciting racing. Lakeland Warrior

31st October – 1st November

Warrior OC presents a weekend of high quality but low key racing in association with Masterplan Adventure and the UK Elite League. Three results count overall to determine the true Lakeland Warrior.

Organised sport is allowed under the current restrictions but if things change this could be your last chance to orienteer for a while. If the races need to be cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions then they will be rearranged for a suitable time in the future.

Due to increasing restrictions it is these races will not score in the Elite League.

Common information

Please do not expect the level of organisation of the recent UKOL races. These races will be very much barebones – skeletal in fact! They are being put on for elite runners, by elite runners (mostly). We are all in it together, so please muck-in if you see anything that needs sorting. The emphasis of the weekend will be on quality terrain, maps and courses.

Coaches / parents / travelling companions – Can you help? Subject to space you will be able to have a run.

All competitors must follow British Orienteering’s Participant Code of Conduct and consider the Alert level guidance.

Fitness to Attend – Competitors must not attend the event if any of the following apply:

  1. They or someone in their household have displayed symptoms of Covid-19 in the past 14 days
  2. They or someone in their household has been tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 14 days
  3. The test and trace service has asked them to self-isolate at the present time
  4. A medical professional has advised or asked them to self-isolate in the past 14 days.

Coronavirus precautions – We have taken measures to enable everyone to follow BOF and Boris Covid rules and guidelines. We will not policing every situation and it is up to everyone to take individual responsibility. There should be no more than 6 people together. Social distancing must be observed everywhere. Hand santiser will be provided where people are likely to touch the same object. Start lists, old maps, results – several copies will be displayed, widely spaced – you must take turns to peruse them, and not crowd round. Spectating is ok, if wide social distancing is observed. Space yourselves appropriately while waiting to start / download.

Punching – SIAir

Map bags – All maps on pretext paper, bring an A4 map case if its wet and muddy. A3 map case for Men on Sunday.

Special symbols – black circle = platform, black cross = sculpture.

First aid – at the finishes but please DIY if at all possible, to avoid unnecessary contact.

Companions will be asked to take injured people to hospital if needed. Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety.

Local Accident and Emergency – Westmorland General Hospital (01539 732288) Burton Road, Kendal, LA9 7RG.

Planner/Organiser – Martin Bagness. Helpers – Carol McNeill, Dick Towler, Derek Allison, Dave Walton.
